Stauffer String Ensemble
STAUFFER STRING ENSEMBLE
Founded at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona, the Stauffer String Ensemble was created to provide young musicians with a high-level orchestral experience and to support their transition to professional concert careers. It brings together carefully selected students of the Academy and functions as a flexible, modular group, with variable forces ranging from chamber-sized groups to expanded string ensembles, depending on the repertoire. Within this framework, the Stauffer String Ensemble occasionally performs together with other orchestral institutions, such as the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO).
Its artistic structure is based on collective music-making, with flexible role distribution and a strong chamber-music approach, even in larger-scale settings. Music direction and coaching are provided by the Academy’s Professors alongside internationally renowned conductors and soloists. With a repertoire spanning from Baroque works to twentieth-century and contemporary music, the Stauffer String Ensemble represents a distinctive model of orchestral training, capable of achieving high artistic standards while combining technical precision with a contemporary, dynamic approach to ensemble work.
The group regularly performs under the baton of distinguished musicians such as John Axelrod, Roman Simovic and Kolja Blacher. In October 2025, Jean-Christophe Spinosi led the Ensemble together with EUYO musicians for the closing concert of the I Suoni delle Dolomiti Festival.
Upcoming engagements include two concerts in the I Concerti della Stauffer series at the Museo del Violino, with Kolja Blacher and Jean-Christophe Spinosi. Among the international engagements, a major artistic residency at the Intimacy of Creativity Festival in Hong Kong is scheduled for June 2026.
